This program will provide the skills and practical knowledge to identify the pumps and compressor in general service and the various maintenance methods plus the number of practical fault finding techniques available. It will also cover the main problems associated with wear and tear and minimizing down times along with lubrication requirements.
This program is designed to assist engineers and technicians in identifying the various pumps and compressors they will be expected to handle. It will detail how to conduct scheduled maintenance and how to replace parts and troubleshooting methods based on manufacturing and practical experiences.
Pumps
• Introduction
o Types of pumps – centrifugal, positive displacement,
o Characteristics Curves,
o Duty point (design parameters),
o Operating parameters and duty Point,
o Typical applications,
o Constructional features
• Operation
o Important operating parameters – NPSH,
o Power, Stable operating range,
o Control & monitoring of important operating parameters,
o Respective specific needs of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps,
o Axillaries to Operation
• Drive,
• Shaft seal,
• Seal cooling/flushing systems,
• Start up and shut down precautions
• Maintenance
o Daily and periodic maintenance schedules and records
• Trouble shooting
o Symptoms and remedial measures (some typical symptoms such as low delivery pressure, low flow rate, overloading of drive, higher energy consumption)
Compressors
• Introduction
o Types of compressors – positive displacement, centrifugal, axial, lubricated, oil free,
o Typical applications,
o Constructional features,
o Characteristics curves
• Operation
o Normal/Design operating conditions,
o Important parameters – flow, speed, stable operating range,
o Auxiliaries to operation
• Drive,
• Shaft seal,
• Filter,
• Lubrication,
• Coolers,
• Speed control,
• Unloader,
• Start up and shut down precautions
• Maintenance
o Daily and periodic maintenance schedules and records
• Trouble shooting
o Symptoms and remedial measures (some typical symptoms such as vibration, overheating of compressor/drive, low delivery pressure, low flow of air/gas)
Engineers and Technicians involved with maintenance programs and are responsible for day to day servicing and operational efficiency. Also plant and maintenance engineers, process engineers and maintenance managers. May also be invaluable to supervisors who are involved in pumps and compressor maintenance schedules
