COURSE NAME:Capacitor Application in Transmission and Distribution system

This course can be scheduled at your convenience, to request this course please click here

Capacitors provide well-known benefits to electric power systems. These benefits include power factor correction, voltage support, release of system capacity, and reduced system losses. As with any piece of electrical equipment, there are a number of application issues that engineers need to be aware of. These issues

range from the very basic to the very complex.

The application issues are addressed in various capacities (performing power system measurements and studies, performing engineering service failure investigations, advising capacitor sales personnel, consulting with end users, and building custom capacitor banks), thus seeing these problems from many different angles.

The objective of this course is to provide participant a practical understanding for power capacitor fundamentals, applications, and technical consideration encountered when dealing with power capacitor specifications for various applications

Upon completion of this course, the participant shall be able to;

  • Understand the basics of power system capacitors
  • Analyze system performance with application of capacitor banks
  • Understand technical considerations associated with the application of capacitor banks
  • Apply the power system capacitors to improve system performance
  • Prepare specifications for power system capacitors
Conduct economic analysis associated with the application of capacitor banks

  • How to develop a business case which supports the use of capacitor banks to improve system performance.
  • Switched primary Shunt Capacitor Banks
  • Secondary Capacitors
  • Series Primary Capacitors

Day 5: Necessary information

  • presents all the necessary information to successfully specify power capacitor which fits application at hand.
  • It covers applicable standards, control and protection of capacitor banks, testing along with various technical information which are necessary to put together proper specification for capacitor banks.
  • Other applications of capacitor in Power System “ series & parallel”
  • Frequently asked questions

This course is a must for utility engineers, consulting engineers, and engineers involved in electrical systems design in distribution systems, industrial plants and commercial and institutional buildings and facilities. It will benefit electric utility engineers, project, and facility engineers, as well as electrical contractors.
