INTRODUCTION:

 

This training course provides an in-depth study of the methods used in substation protection for medium- voltage & high-voltage equipment.  Also, this course explains power transformer protection and substation bus protection.

In this training course, participants will review also on balanced and unbalanced electrical faults, relaying fundamentals, current transformers, and basic digital relay concepts

Participants will cover the troubleshooting for common substation devices, including power transformers, oil, air and vacuum circuit breakers, switchgear, ground grid systems, batteries, chargers and insulating liquids. This course focuses on what to do, when to do it and how to interpret the results from testing and maintenance.

OBJECTIVES:

 

Upon completion of this course, the participant shall be able to;

 

  • Protect common substation devices, including power transformers
  • Protect oil, air, and vacuum circuit breakers, switchgear, ground grid systems, batteries, chargers and insulating liquids.
  • Maintain common substation devices
  • Troubleshoot  common substation devices, including power transformers
  • Troubleshoot oil, air, and vacuum circuit breakers, switchgear, ground grid systems, batteries, chargers and insulating liquids

Day 2:Busbar & Transformer Protection

  • Differential Protection Principle
  • Bus Protection (includes a class exercise)
  • Transformer Differential Protection
  • Transformer Protection Exercise

 

Day 3: Circuits and Breaker Failure

  • Transformer Overcurrent, Overload, and Mechanical Protection
  • Transformer Overcurrent Protection Exercise
  • Substation Trip Circuits and Breaker Failure

 

Day 4: Circuit Breaker troubleshooting
