INTRODUCTION:

In the field of high voltage equipments, safty play an important part. Electrical safety is one of most concern in workplaces where high voltage found. It has been that over a hundred people die each year because the poor of high voltage safty in machines that are being repaired, set up, or serviced have not been properly locked out. The electrical safety procedure keeps employees from accidently starting up a machine without them knowing that the machine is under maintenance, and that people are currently working on it.

It is essential that only trained employees are instructed to use this electrical safety procedure, and in addition to this, they should be made aware of all the aspects of electricity that revolve in the machines they operate. Anyone who works around these machines, whether they’re included in the machines repair or not, should also be informed about these electrical safety procedures, lest they tamper with the lockout/tagout devices and cause danger. These people must always be informed when a Lockout Tagout electrical safety procedure is currently taking place, and that they are prohibited to work on the machines or even come near them when service is undergoing

OBJECTIVES:

The course aims to make candidates aware of high voltage electric safty. Employees working in areas where there are potential electrical hazards shall be provided with, and shall use, electrical protective equipment that is appropriate for the specific parts of the body to be protected and for the work to be performed.

 

Delegates will gain a detailed appreciation of the following:

 

  • Fundamental requirements for high voltage electric safety
  • Electric shock in high voltage equipment.
  • Grounding system with high voltage equipment.
  • High voltage protective equipment in a safe, reliable condition.
  • Neutral grounding in high voltage equipment protective.
  • Earth resistivity measurements for high voltage.
  • Over voltages on power system and safety.
  • High voltage Cables and safety
  • Alternative forms of power switchgear and circuit breaker – current limiting, non-current limiting, etc.
  • Power  optimization equipment  for real power and use of transformers, transmission lines, generators and motors  devices to improve system operation
OUTLINE:

Day 1: Fundamental requirements for high voltage electric safety

 

  • Overview of a typical systems covering generation, transmission and distribution
  • Determination of flow of real (P) and reactive power (Q)
  • Determination and control of fault level
  • Introduction, switchgear definition, function main components& specifications
  • Main high voltage equipment
  • Generation of high voltage
  • Earthling switch 
  • Operation of high voltage equipment (circuit breaker, motors, transmission lines etc.)
  • High voltage electric safety

 

 

Day 2: Electric shock in high voltage equipment

 

  • Electric Shock in high voltage 
  • Shock and human body
  • How electricity hurts people
  • Safety precaution to be taken in high voltage during maintenance
  • Coping with rising demand for power - transmission and distribution
  • The costs associated with increasing fault level
  • Power switchgear  equipment  design and operation
  • Arcl-ess Power switchgear
  • Quality of switchgear equipment.
  • Grounding system with high voltage equipment.

 

 

Day 3: Neutral grounding in high voltage protective equipment

 

  • Ground –grid mesh electrode
  • Failures causes and analysis of faults in high voltage sides.
  • A practical approach to safe grounding.
  • The requirements for neutral grounding 
  • High voltage protective equipment in a safe, reliable condition.
  • Grounding for power system plants
  • Methods for decreasing grounding resistance
  • Advantages and disadvantage of each grounding systems
  • High Voltage Applications - Surge protection, current limiters network switching, etc.

 

 

Day 4: Earthing and Electrical safety

  • Earth electrode resistance
  • Earth fault loop impedance.
  • Requirements for RCD protection,
  • Protective against mechanical damage.
  • Optical Current Transducers for Protection - optical current sensors eliminate CT saturation
  • Protection against corrosion
  • High Voltage Applications - Surge protection, current limiters network switching, etc.
  • Non-linear loads - harmonics at PCC - filtering - G5/4 requirements

 

 

Day 5: Electric safety in high voltages power system

 

 

  • Electric safety in High voltage Cables
  • Electric safety, Testing and maintenance of high voltage circuit breaker
  • Electric safety in high voltage Switchgear Preventive maintenance
  • System protection
  • Electrical Insulation - Air and SF6 - the problems
  • Condition Monitoring of Plant
  • Power  optimization equipment for real power and use of transformers, transmission lines, generators and motors  devices to improve system operation
